WEB SEMANTIC
DETAILS
Question: Will the Semantic Web ever be extensive as the World Wide Web?
Answer: I worked in the Silicon Valley for ten years between 1975 and 1985. A lot happened then from solid-state circuitry to the silicon chip wherein IBM finally got into the PC market pushed by Apple. However, the latter finally succumbed to compatibility with Big Blue. Still this semantic web thing should be called "screening web" because the computer just categorizes for us faster. Arguments whether meta tags are good or bad flourish today, but they are as archaic as digital electronics in my opinion. However, I would pick on our entire technological matrix presently because it is held back by economics. Of course, that is important because no forward advancement or innovation can take place until the old technology is used. It is the incremental status quo wherein nothing changes unless gradualism takes place. Innovation is not quick when profit is the motive. Therefore, we saw Enron and WorldCom along with their accounting firm Arthur Young go done because the turn of the millennium found us at one gigahertz (in 1980, I predicted we would be at 100 megahertz at the millennium whilst practically being laughed out of the valley - remember we were only at 5.8 megahertz then. Yet my prediction was 1000% percent off - in 98', we were at 200 megahertz). The idea was that technology has a predilection for going to fast ahead of economics and someone must pay the price. That is why the semantic or screening web is not here yet insofar as it is natural for man to use the tools he creates at his disposal. Our present primitiveness is our fault for not enhancing our economics firstly. Banking is very primitive and do not follow the laws of sovereignty regarding that anyone can issue their credit (UCc S. 3). In other words, banking is 360 degrees twisted round. What this has to do with the computer semantic web means that the computer must screen or glean the facts or problems in our society. Still the computer only can do what we programme it to and its logic could glean what I say regarding these economic facts by asking the simple questions. The problem remains is that meta tag's relationship to semantics clearly indicates missing variables. That is tantamount to digital invariance leaving a lot to be desired. Clearing the deck here, we find simply that the voice interaction with the computer should be more advanced. I know we can buy voice computer packages, but they are very primitive also. Yet where is the focus as Yankee group member Phil Jones says, "Profit is still key at IBM. They are not interested in the computers being too sophisticated unless in turns the bottom line black". Therefore, we find that the semantic web will be subject to the profit margin as usual and only help us as far as that dollar will take us.
