For small lan we use class-c address
Explanation:In class C ip address the first three bytes out of four are for network address while the last byte is for host address which can range from 1-254 which is smallest lan possible whereas class B has two bytes and class A has three bytes reserved for host address which increases number of hosts in those classes Source: CoolInterview.com

well since it is not clearly specified how many members but if members are near about 250 then "C" class is generally alloted by IANA but now a days "D" and "E" classes are also available . these days CIDR are in demand because they convert these class in /19 or /24 forms so that many addresses doesnt get waisted up .
