1. Abstraction
1.1 The process of modeling only relevant features by hiding unnecessary details that are not relevant to the current purpose.
1.2 Abstraction can be viewed as of the act of identifying software artifacts to model the problem domain. The process of reducing an object to its essence so that only the necessary elements are represented. Abstraction defines an object in terms of its properties (attributes), behaviors (functionality), and interface (means of communicating with other objects).

① Examples of Abstraction
1 Abstraction - If you ever say, “Don’t bother me with the details”,then you are trying to abstract.
2 Functional Abstraction - functional abstraction refers to a function that can be used without taking into account how the function is implemented. In functional abstraction, details of the algorithms to accomplish the function are not visible to the consumer of the function. The consumer of the function need to only know the correct calling convention and have trust in the accuracy of the functional results. When you are writing a function X you can put calls to other auxiliary functions into this function X. You specify WHAT these auxiliary functions do, but you [temporarily] abstract away HOW they do it.
3 Data Abstraction - For example, one could define an abstract data type called lookup table which uniquely associates keys with values, and in which values may be retrieved by specifying their corresponding keys. Such a lookup table may be implemented in various ways: as a hash table, a binary search tree, or even a simple linear list. The consumer(client) of the data container is only concerned about correct behavior of the data container(provided by interfaces of the data type lookup table) and not many of the internal details(implementation is kept entirely private, and indeed can change, for example to incorporate efficiency improvements over time). The idea is that such changes are not supposed to have any impact on client code, since they involve no difference in the abstract behaviour(interfaces of the data type that is visible to client, who is only interested in correct behavior).
4 Process Abstraction - In process abstraction, details of the threads of execution are not visible to the consumer of the process. An example of process abstraction is the concurrency scheduler in a database system. A database system can handle many concurrent queries. These queries are executed in a particular order, some in parallel while some sequential, such that the resulting database can not be distinguished from a database where all the queries are done in a sequential fashion. A consumer of a query which represents one thread of execution is only concerned about the validity of the query and not the process used by the database scheduler to accomplish the query.
Source: CoolInterview.com
