Syntax:head -h filename | tail +t
Code:head -30 file1 | tail + 20
If file1 has 50 records,above code will display 20-30 records.
If you want to display a particular record use the following code:
Syntax:head -n | tail -1
$head -23 file1 | tail -1
It will display 23rd record only.

We can use another command also to get the above result.


sed -n '20,30p' fileName

to get exactly one line we can user sed command as well.

sed -n '23p' fileName

This is just another way to achieve the same result. We can get the result using head and tail also which are mentioned above. Source:
